Peel Memorial Centre opened in 2017 as an ambulatory (outpatient) care facility with no emergency department.

On March 26, 2021, the province announced plans to add a 250-bed inpatient wing and upgrade the facility's status to a hospital, with an emergency department to be added later -- a future addition, not current capacity.
